Norway’s Ole-Kristian Tollefson delivered a nasty elbow to the head of Slovakia’s Lubos Bartecko.  Bartecko’s helmet fell off after the collision and he smashed the back of his head on the ice.  A pool of blood leaked from the back of Bartecko’s head as trainers rushed to his aid.  He was taken from the ice on a stretcher and has been stitched up and is recovering.  Thankfully the only damage was a concussion.

This type of hit (video) is a prime example of why the NHL is looking into banning hits to the head.  Hopefully, Bartecko will have a full recovery and have a chance to play again if Slovakia continues to move forward in the medal tournament.

Tollefson is currently property of the Detroit Red Wings and plays for their AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins.  Bartecko plays for Färjestads BK in the Swedish Elite League (SEL).

wow what a weird looking hit that was, I didn’t think the damage would be that extreme. I do hope the NHL tries to curb this somehow, players need to play with more respect.
