Canada Wins…Welcome back, NHL
The Canadians defeated the Americans yesterday 3-2 in overtime to win the gold medal. Our very own Jesse Liebman and his co-host Ian Tasso at Last Call on ETIN have the story on Team U.S.A.’s improbable run in the Olympic games and why the Americans need to be proud of their silver medals.
The Americans may have to settle for silver, but when you think about it, they were supposed to go home empty-handed.
Yes, there were a few proven NHL stars donning the red, white and blue, unlike thirty years back where the stars and stripes were carried by a bunch of college students.
But still, overall, the American hockey team was pretty much an afterthought. This year’s games was about the Canadians, the Russians and the plethera of All Stars each of those teams trotted onto the ice….Continued.
And now, with the Olympics over, the NHL is scheduled to resume tonight with the Detroit Red Wings traveling to Denver to take on the Colorado Avalanche. I sure would have liked to be a fly on the wall during the flight of Red Wing/Team Canada coach Mike Babcock and Red Wing/USA defenseman Brian Rafalski’s flight from Vancouver to Denver. It’s a quick turnaround for those two, as well as Avalanche forward Paul Stastny. The game tonight kicks of a big week of NHL coverage on Versus with 5 games in 5 nights, plus the trade deadline is this Wednesday at 3pm.
